Peacock has dropped the gritty first trailer for Bell-Air, its dramatic re-imagining of Will Smith’s beloved ‘90s sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Coming to the streamer on February 13, Bell-Air is executive produced by Smith and co-written and directed by Morgan Cooper, whose viral 2019 trailer inspired the series’ premise.
“This town will try to make you forget who you are and where you came from. Don’t let it do that,” main antagonist Will (Jabari Banks) is warned at the start of the trailer.
We are then shown how he goes to live with his Uncle Phil (Adrian Holmes) at his palatial mansion in California for a “second chance,” after getting into trouble with the law and leaving his less privileged life in West Philadelphia behind.
Unlike the original light-hearted source material on which it is based, Bel-Air promises a more “raw” and grounded depiction of Will’s story of growth and redemption, as he struggles to find out who he is and his place in this strange, new world.
Peacock will release three episodes of Bell-Air at launch followed by new episodes released weekly.
