Threat poised for Hungerford Stakes before heading to the sales
Threat is likely to make his final start for Richard Hannon in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on Saturday week, before going under the hammer at the Tattersalls August Sale.
The dual Group Two-winning son of Footstepsinthesand will bid to open his account for the campaign by claiming a third victory at that level in the seven-furlong prize.
Having made a satisfactory return on his first start over a mile in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned colt turned in a tame effort dropped back to six furlongs last time out, beating just two rivals home in the July Cup at Newmarket.
Hannon said: “Threat will probably turn up in the Hungerford Stakes. He has been a little bit hard to gauge this year. I wasn’t disappointed with his run at Royal Ascot in the St James’s Palace Stakes, as it was in a very good race.
“His last run in the July Cup was definitely frustrating. He was in the perfect position and had a nice lead. I thought he was going to run well, but it didn’t work out that way.”
