World Athletics Championships rescheduled to prevent clash with 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham
The World Athletics Championships, now being held in 2022, have been brought forward by three weeks to avoid a clash with the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Having already been pushed back a year, this is the second date change for the event, which was originally due to take place from August 6-15, 2021.
After a week of discussions between organisers and the athletics governing body, it has now been announced that they will take place in Eugene, Oregon from 15-24 July 2022.
The dates for Birmingham will remain the same, running from July 27 to August 7, and despite a clash between their start and the finale of football's Women's European Championship, UEFA have said they are unlikely to move their tournament.
World Athletics' president Sebastian Coe said the new schedule presented 'a bonanza for athletics fans around the globe'.
