Legendary Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he received a call from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the early hours of the morning to say they’d won the Premier League title.

Ferguson, who won 13 titles with the Red Devils between 1993 and 2013, took the time to congratulate both Liverpool and Klopp after the Reds boss was named LMA Manager of the Year.

And he agreed to forgive the German for waking him up in the middle of the night.

He said: "Jurgen, fantastic. I have spoken about Leeds United, 16 years in the Championship, Liverpool, 30 years since winning that league: incredible.

"Really thoroughly deserved. The performance level of the team, really outstanding.

"Your personality ran right through the whole club. I think it was a marvellous, marvellous performance.

"I’ll forgive you for waking me up at half past three in the morning to tell me you’d won the league. Thank you.

"But anyway, you’ve thoroughly deserved it, well done."

Ferguson won the LMA Manager of the Year award four times and also collected the LMA Manager of the Decade for his stellar achievements in the 1990s.

Liverpool’s total number of top flight English titles now stands at 19.

They still remain one behind Manchester United, who hold the record with 20.
