Race organisers have said they will decide by the end of April whether or not the British Grand Prix will go ahead as planned.

The race around the Silverstone circuit is scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 17-19.

But due to coronavirus all of the season's Formula 1 races have already been postponed up to the Canadian Grand Prix in June, throwing up doubts over whether the British race will remain as scheduled.

As reported by BBC Sport, a joint statement from Silverstone and F1 said: "We fully appreciate that other UK sporting events in July have taken decisions regarding their events, but it is important to highlight that their logistics and sporting arrangements differ from Silverstone's.

"Therefore, our timeline gives us until the end of April to make a final decision. The safety of our fans, colleagues and the F1 community will be our priority and we will continue to engage with the appropriate authorities."

Last year, Lewis Hamilton won a record-breaking sixth British Grand Prix, overtaking Jim Clark's five victories in the 1960s.

Mercedes have won six of the last seven races at Silverstone, with Sebastian Vettel's triumph for Ferrari in 2018 the only anomaly.
