Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has hinted at a return to Liverpool after insisting the Reds 'are always in his heart'.

The 25-year-old secured a move to the Etihad from Merseyside in 2015 for a sizeable £49 million after scoring 23 goals in 129 appearances for Liverpool.

And he has more than repaid The Sky Blues over a five-year period, flourishing under Pep Guardiola in particular as he has racked up 89 goals in 230 games.

However, Sterling has now sparked rumours about a possible return to the club he impressed with as a teenager after refusing to dismiss he could go back to Liverpool one day.

Speaking in a social media Q&A organised by Colossal Sports Management, he said: "Would I ever go back to Liverpool? To be honest with you I love Liverpool.

"Don’t get it twisted, they are always in my heart. It’s a team that has done a lot for me growing up so…" 

Sterling, like all Premier League players, is currently inactive due to the coronavirus pandemic leading to all elite English football being suspended until at least April 30.

Manchester City currently sit second in the top flight, 25 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
