Formula 1 have moved the summer break for the 2020 season forward from August to March and April.

The teams unanimously agreed to close down for those three weeks earlier in the season in a bid to fit in as many races as possible once action is allowed to resume.

The change was approved by on Wednesday by the World Motor Sport Council, the FIA's legislative body.

This year's campaign has been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak, with organisers now hoping to start with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on June 7.

The four races which were scheduled to be the first ones of the 2020 season have all been postponed - Australia, Bahrain, Vietnam and China.

It is also thought that organisers will decide in the coming days to suspend racing at the Netherlands, Spain and Monaco Grand Prix's.

Ferrari have confirmed they will shut down production on March 19, while Red Bull said they will stop work on March 27.

A statement from Red Bull read: "There may be some flexibility around those dates due to the ever-changing nature of the pandemic.

"We agreed with the measures being taken to reduce the risk of transmission and will support any further race postponements that are deemed necessary.

"We are taking every possible precaution to mitigate the spread of the virus...implementing special working methods, guided by the UK government and medical professionals".
