Grant McCann thrilled with Doncaster display in win at Salford
Doncaster manager Grant McCann was pleased with the battling qualities his side showed in their 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Salford.
A clinical strike from veteran Billy Sharp and a late goal from substitute Luke Molyneux secured Rovers’ progress into round two.
McCann said: “It’s never easy here in Salford on a wet Tuesday night but it was a good performance from us.
“We had to be good on second balls. The first two games we’ve come up against teams that play a bit longer.
“We had to pick up second balls and it was a really good goal from Billy.
“We had to defend set-plays because Salford are a really big team. I was pleased to get the second goal right at the end too to win the game.
“I don’t think our goalkeeper had too much to do or many saves to make which is really pleasing.”
As for Salford, they were toothless in attack and have lost both games this season without scoring.
First-team coach Alex Bruce said: “We had our chances but just couldn’t hit the target. The quality needs to be better, we know that.
“We need to work the keeper more. But you see the quality Doncaster have in their squad.
“We’ll turn our attentions to the league now because we’ve got a big game on Saturday at Bradford to focus on.”
