Emmanuel Fernandez scores a stunner as Peterborough edge Exeter
Emmanuel Fernandez scored a stunning 30-yard goal as Peterborough came from behind to secure a 2-1 win at Exeter.
The defender strode out of the back line and took advantage of his opponents backing off as his swerving effort flashed past the outstretched left hand of Joe Whitworth.
The 22-year-old’s first EFL strike completed a spirited first-half fightback after Posh got off to a bad start.
Reece Cole cashed in on some static defending to lash a fierce left-footed effort past Jed Steer after just four minutes.
But Posh hit back just three minutes later when Abraham Odoh slipped a pass into the path of Malik Mothersille, who found the back of the net via the inside of the post.
Peterborough went in front on the stroke of half-time thanks to Fernandez’s burst and long-range finish.
Whitworth produced a smart save at the start of the second half, springing off his line to save at the feet of Joel Randall.
The goalkeeper sent Ricky Jade-Jones sprawling for a Posh penalty in the 73rd minute but he dived to his right to deny former Exeter midfielder Archie Collins from the spot.
But Posh saw the game out to make it back to back wins.
