England rugby head coach Eddie Jones takes 25% pay cut to help RFU finances
England rugby head coach Eddie Jones has agreed to a pay cut in excess of 25 per cent to help stabilise the Rugby Football Union's finances.
It emerged yesterday that the RFU will lose between £45-50 million over the next 18 months as a result of the coronavirus.
The governing body's executives, including chairman Bill Sweeney, took a pay cut to offset the fallin income and now Jones has also agreed to the reduction in his £750,000 salary.
Sweeney said: "When I contacted Eddie regarding our executive pay reduction proposals he immediately agreed."
In a statement yesterday, Sweeney said the closure of Twickenham is where the RFU is taking their biggest hit.
"The RFU's biggest asset is also a major cost and the closure of Twickenham Stadium has a significant impact on the revenues we can generate to reinvest back into the game."
