Carl Frampton 'very much doubts' world title fight against Jamel Herring will take place in June
Two-weight world champion Carl Frampton does not believe his WBO World Super Featherweight Title fight against Jamel Herring will take place on June 13.
The 33-year-old, who is moving up to the 130 pound weight division having collected world title belts at both super bantamweight and featherweight, is scheduled to take on the American in less three months time.
But the coronavirus pandemic has decimated the sporting calendar, something Frampton believes will also affect his fight date.
"There are a lot more important things to be worrying about. It wouldn't be fair on either fighter to prepare for a world title fight in circumstances like this," he told BBC Sport Northern Ireland.
"I very much doubt the Herring fight will happen in June, but I am training now as if it is, until I hear otherwise."
Frampton also feels the governing bodies need to do something to help boxers during this period of inactivity because, unlike in some other sports, fighters rely on being paid on the night of their bout rather than receiving weekly or monthly wage.
"The British Boxing Board of Control needs to come together with the promoters and devise some sort of plan for self-employed boxers at this difficult time," he said.
Several boxing shows have already been postponed or cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak, including Daniel Dubois v Joe Joyce on April 11 and Terri Harper v Natasha Jonas on April 24.
