WTA’s Tokyo Toray Pan Pacific Open cancelled
The Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo is the latest event on the WTA calender to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event was scheduled to take place in September but was pushed back to November, but has now been called off altogether.
Organisers said in a statement: "We were trying to find ways, such as having no audience or limiting the number of spectators.
“But we reached the tough conclusion that we have to cancel the tournament given the difficulty of ensuring the safety.”
It comes after 11 WTA and ATP events in China were cancelled over safety concerns, which included the WTA November Finals in Shenzhen.
