WTA Rankings: Rising tennis star Coco Gauff breaks into top 50 for the first time
American teenager Coco Gauff has broken into the WTA top 50, becoming the first 15-year-old to do so since 2005.
Gauff first stormed into the public eye when she defeated Venus Williams in the first round at Wimbledon last year.
And now she finds herself world No. 49 before her 16th birthday following her impressive run of form so far this year, with her most notable win coming in the third round of the Australian Open when she defeated reigning champion Naomi Osaka.
The young American was just 17 months old the last time a 15-year-old broke into the top 50, with French Open quarter-finalist Sesil Karatancheva achieving the feat in 2005.
Elsewhere, there have been some other reshuffles including Dubai runner-up Elena Rybakina reaching a career high No. 17.
And Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin has moved up to No. 5, one spot behind Canadian youngster Bianca Andreescu.
