Warner Records signs 12 year-old singer Keedron Bryant after protest song goes viral
Warner Records have signed 12 year-old boy Keedron Bryant after his song about being a young black man in today’s world went viral.
He posted a video of him singing online a day after the death of George Floyd on May 26.
Bryant sang ‘I Just Wanna Live,’ written by his mother Johnnetta Bryant.
His video has been viewed more than three million times on Instagram and has gained over one million likes.
The song will be released today by the US record company to coincide with Juneteenth, which marks the end of centuries of US slavery.
The record label will donate the profits from the song to the National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People.
The lyrics include the lines: "I'm a young black man, doing all that I can to stand.
"Oh, but when I look around, and I see what's being done to my kind.
“Every day I'm being hunted as prey. My people don't want no trouble.”
In an interview with The Associated Press this week he said: "It's very exciting because this is what God's called me to do.
“It's just been an exciting experience to work with my mom.”
Former president Barack Obama, basketball star LeBron James and singer Janet Jackson have all praised the youngster.
