Virgil van Dijk set to become Liverpool's highest-paid player with £220,000 per week deal
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is reportedly set to sign a new £220,000 per week deal with the European champions and soon-to-be Premier League winners.
According to The Sun, the Dutch centre-back is expected to put pen to paper on a new five-year contract once the Reds have secured the title.
The deal will see Van Dijk become the highest-paid player at Liverpool as he reaps the rewards from what has been an incredible two and a half years on Merseyside.
Along with triumphing in the Champions League, the 28 year-old picked up the PFA Player of the Year award in 2019.
Van Dijk was the first defender to clinch the accolade since Englishman John Terry won it with Chelsea in 2005.
Liverpool are due to resume their title tilt with a 25 point lead over second place Manchester City when they travel to local rivals Everton next Sunday.
The Reds need just two victories from their remaining nine games to secure their first top flight crown for 30 years.
Liverpool got back into the swing of playing matches behind closed doors with a 6-0 friendly win over Blackburn Rovers on Thursday evening.
Speaking after the match, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "Everything is different. The boys now go home and didn’t have a shower.
"It was raining before the game, so that would have been funny if there had been really hard rain and then you drive home in your own car and you didn’t have a shower."
