Vfl Wolfsburg forward Pernille Harder reacts to club’s fourth consecutive Frauen Bundesliga title
Vfl Wolfsburg forward Pernille Harder has said she’s proud of her team for winning their fourth consecutive Frauen Bundesliga title, despite ‘tough conditions’ this season due to the coronavirus.
The German league still have two rounds to play but after Wolfsburg beat SC Freiburg 2-0 yesterday they are eight points clear of second in the table Bayern Munich, and so have won the title early.
Harder wrote on Twitter: "This team. We did it. So proud of everyone. Tough conditions with corona delaying the season, challenging our form and putting a lot of uncertainty into our heads.
"However everyone put in hard work to come back stronger and finish what we started. Thanks to all the fans who have supported us throughout everything this season.
“We missed you yesterday and can’t wait to celebrate with you.”
Harder scored the second goal in yesterday’s match with Joelle Wedemayer slotting in the first.
The Frauen Bundesliga has been one of the few female league’s to finish their season. England’s Women’s Super League and France’s Division 1 Feminine have both been cancelled.
And as well as finding out they are victors of the German league, Wolfsburg were also informed this week that the Champions League will resume in August.
They reached the quarter-finals before the pandemic hit. The knock-out rounds will now be played over one leg in Spain from August 21-30.
The German side are due to play Glasgow City in the quarters.
