UFC’s Dana White says ‘I’ll kill Amanda Nunes if she retires’
UFC president Dana White has joked he will ‘kill’ Amanda Nunes if she decides to retire now.
The two-weight champion said she is contemplating retirement after she defended her featherweight title against Felicia Spencer earlier this month.
White said on The Schmozone Podcast: “I will kill her, I literally just told Sean [Shelby UFC matchmaker] and Mick [Maynard, matchmaker] in the last meeting let’s get this division built for her."
The president is planning to create a 145lb division in the sport to accomodate Nunes.
He added: "Let’s build this division for her, and let’s start figuring this out. And now she’s talking about retiring?
“You know what’s awesome about that when you think about it? Her retiring isn’t awesome; that actually drives me nuts.
"You know how I always say, ‘If you’re talking about retiring, you probably should.’ Unless if you’re where she’s at.
“In this time when I got guys crying about money, one of our female fighters, who could go on and keep doing this for a long time, is saying, ‘Maybe I retire now.’ She’s got plenty of money, and she can do it.”
As well as securing the featherweight belt, Nunes is also in possession of the bantamweight title.
Her win against Spencer took her winning streak to 11 in a row and she has not lost a fight in six years.
