UFC's Amanda Nunes hits out at Russian media outlet's 'transgender athlete' insinuation
UFC star Amanda Nunes has lashed out after a Russian TV network used her image alongside a "transgender athlete" headline.
RT Sport used a video of Nunes in a bout with former fighter Ronda Rousey with the headline: "Transgender athletes are destroying women's sports."
Nunes took to Twitter and wrote: "What the F***? If I was born with a penis I wouldn't be going through all this trouble to get Nina Ansaroff a baby."
The fighter is openly gay and engaged to MMA fighter Nina Ansaroff.
RT Sport apologised by tweeting: "To Amanda Nunes, our video production team mistakenly used your photo in a video which had nothing to do with you. We sincerely apologise. RT greatly respects your achievements and legacy in the world of MMA #MMAGOAT."
Nunes defended her bantamweight UFC title last June after defeating Holly Holm. She is currently fifth in the pound for pound ranking.
