Tyson Fury’s trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder could be pushed back to February 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, promoter Bob Arum has confirmed.

The Gypsy King stopped his American opponent in seven rounds back in February to avenge their draw in 2018, but Wilder has the contractual right to a third bout.

And that trilogy fight was initially touted for December as boxing organisers hoped crowds would return in the US by the end of the year.

But with America still struggling to get a hold of the spread of COVID-19, Fury’s promoter Arum has now told Sirius XM that there is a strong chance the fight will take place next year.

Meanwhile, Fury’s WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte is scheduled to receive his shot at the title by February 2021.

As a result, his promoter Eddie Hearn believes Fury-Wilder should be called off if it is going to take that long to stage.

Speaking to iFL TV, he said: "If he (Arum) does (push the fight back to February) then I think that fight should be cancelled.

"I think Dillian Whyte should be forced immediately as the mandatory for Tyson Fury. We’ve already got a deadline for the end of February.

"Why can’t they do the fight? Yes, we know there’s a pandemic but Joshua’s fighting, all the other major fights are going to take place. So I don’t see how that’s even an argument.

"We can do Dillian Whyte against Tyson Fury now. We’ll do it on pay-per-view. It’s a monstrous fight, does 1.5-2 million buys.

"We could do it in Saudi or here (Fight Camp in Essex)."

Whyte has to come through Alexander Povetkin, who he faces on August 22, if he is to keep his shot at the WBC title.
