Tyson Fury tells Anthony Joshua their fight ‘has to happen’ in 2021 and insists he respects heavyweight rival
Tyson Fury has told Anthony Joshua the all-British blockbuster fight between them ‘has to happen’ in 2021.
Calls for an undisputed clash between the two has gathered pace since Joshua knocked out Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev last weekend.
Now Fury has come out and publicly stated that he wants AJ next and that nothing is standing in the way of them meeting in the ring in 2021.
"Next year, the fight has to happen," Fury told The Jonathan Ross Show.
"He's come over his final hurdle last week against Pulev. And now we're both free to make this fight. I'm willing to do the fight.
"He (Joshua) was asked the question: 'Do you want to fight Tyson Fury?' Very plain and simple, and he never answered the question. It was a simple yes or no answer, wasn't it?
"Then they said: 'Do you think you're the best heavyweight in the world?'
"And he went (holds hands up). Didn't answer the question. Ask me: 'Do you want to fight Anthony Joshua?' Yes."
Promoter Eddie Hearn announced earlier this year that Joshua and Fury had reached a ‘financial agreement’ for two fights in 2021.
And while Fury has trashed Joshua in the past, he insists he has a tremendous amount of respect for his heavyweight rival.
He added: "He's a great fighter, Olympic gold medallist, two-time heavyweight champion just like me, he's won all the best, he's a great, great athlete. Of course (I have respect for him)."
The Jonathan Ross Show will air on ITV on Saturday night at 9:25pm.
