Twitch streamer Byron ‘Reckful’ Bernstein dies aged 31
Twitch streamer Byron Bernstein, known as Reckful online, has died at the age of 31.
The news was confirmed by an ex-girlfriend Blue Madrigal and his room mate.
Madrigal tweeted: “I keep thinking there’s something I could have said or done… I wish I reached out more.
"Byron, I wish I could have helped you. We all do. I’m so sorry I couldn’t. Thank you for being a part of my life. Love you always.”
Berstein was one of the first people to make it big on Twitch, drawing in tens of thousands of people every time he streamed.
He was also one of the top players in the World of Warcraft community. His latest venture was building his own game called Everland, an open world game with social elements.
The creator had spoken about mental health publicly and even streamed a therapy session with psychiatrist Dr. Alok Kanojia.
In tribute to Berstein, many WoW players met online in memory of their friend.
Esports consultant Rob Breslau wrote on Twitter: "Reckful/Byron memorials are now being held inside World of Warcraft across multiple servers and locations to pay respects to a WoW legend"
Other people took to social media to pay their respects.
Twitch streamer Chance Morris wrote: "Byron u deserved better. Life is not fair. You were at times the best person to spend time with, u deserved...so much better than this. U were and always will be a legend in my life so in that way you'll never die. RIP."
And WoW tweeted: "Rest in peace, Byron "Reckful" Bernstein."
