The 2020 Boston Marathon postponed until September
The 2020 Boston Marathon has been postponed until September due to the coronavirus.
It was due to take place on April 20 but is now rescheduled for September 14 and it will be the first time in its 123-year history that the marathon has been delayed.
Announcing the postponment, Mayor Martin J. Walsh said: "In the face of this crisis in this country, we have to lead."
Boston Athletic Association CEO Tom Grilk added: "On matters of public health and safety we take our guidance from the officials entrusted with protecting the public in this area."
