Tennis star Garbine Muguruza wants to play doubles with Rafael Nadal at Olympics next year
World No 15 Garbine Muguruza has said it would be ‘special’ to play mixed doubles with 20-time Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The 27 year-old Spaniard, who won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon a year later, could be teamed with Nadal next summer.
The star added that her other goals for 2021 are to win all four Grand Slams and to get on the podium at Tokyo.
She said: “Special? Winning all four Grand Slams, an Olympic medal and playing Nadal mixed doubles at the Games. The most special thing is sharing the successes.”
She was scheduled to play mixed doubles with Nadal at the 2016 Games in Rio, but he pulled out after progressing in both the singles and men’s doubles.
Muguruza is set to start her 2021 season at the WTA 500 tournament next month.
The postponed Olympic Games are due to begin on July 23 in 2021.
