New Tottenham Hotspur manager Rehanne Skinner says it’s a ‘great statement’ that the women are now permanently based at the club’s main Enfield training ground.

It was revealed earlier this year that the women had only been training at Enfield once a week and the rest of the time they would train at Barnet Hive, where they play their matches. 

It  has been claimed the ground doesn’t have a working fridge and players brought their own sandwiches to training.

Skinner said: “The game has changed massively, we all know that, and the club is now starting to encompass the women’s team more and more. We are now training here at the ground which is a great statement and provides us with unbelievable facilities to start raising the standards that we are looking to achieve.

“We have everything we need to create a high-performance environment. It’s now on our doorstep... The stuff we have access to now is unbelievable and obviously the players are ecstatic about being in this environment.”

And while the timing of the move may seem like it was Skinner’s doing as she joined the club two weeks ago, she insists that the club already had the plans in motion.

“The club were very aware the facilities for the players needed to evolve. It obviously shows their interest in the women’s team because they felt it was the right time to make that move. 

"It was already something that was happening [before I joined]. That made a statement to me about the intent that was around, looking after the women’s team and incorporating them so that’s been a real positive step for everybody."

Skinner, who took over from Karen Hills and Juan Amoros, will have her first game in charge of the club this Sunday as Spurs take on Brighton in the Women’s Super League.

Not only will this be special for her as it is her first game but the added bonus is that a limited number of fans will be able to attend.

“The timing of having the fans back in is just really fortunate for me. [It] will change the atmosphere in the game and hopefully bring a little lift. I can’t wait to have a game under our belt with all the work we have been putting in."

Tottenham v Brighton will kick off at 2pm on Sunday.
