Sofia Kenin and Sloane Stephens to headline women’s invitational tennis tournament
The 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and the 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens are set to headline a women’s invitational tennis tournament.
The Credit One Bank tournament marks the first competitive return of women’s tennis since the coronavirus pandemic began.
It is scheduled to take place between June 23-28 in Daniel Island, Charleston in South Carolina behind-closed-doors.
16 WTA players have been selected and will be split into two teams.
Madison Keys will take charge of ‘Team Kindness,' and Bethanie Mattek-Sands will captain ‘Team Peace.'
Other players taking part will be Wimbledon runner-up Eugenie Bouchard and former world No 1 Victoria Azarenka.
The tournament will feature 16 single matches and eight doubles matches.
Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Medical University of South Carolina, who will ensure the event has a safe playing environment.
