UFC star Rose Namajunas sets sights on a fight against Zhang Weili
UFC star Rose Namajunas has revealed she is setting her sights on fighting Zhang Weili next.
It comes after the 28 year-old took the strawweight title at the UFC 251 against Jessica Andrade at the weekend via a split decision at ‘Fight Island’ in Abu Dhabi.
Namajunas was left with a sealed shut left eye and a split open nose and went straight to hospital afterwards.
But now she is ready for her next fight and wants to take on Weili.
During an appearance on Wednesday's edition of Ariel Helwani's MMA Show, Namajunas said: “That was kind of the plan going into it. I just have to get this nose fixed first. I don't know what the recovery time is.”
She is having a consultation on Friday and will require surgery.
Her coach Pat Berry added: "We know Weili's never taken a day off, ever.
“She's training right now. She watched [the Namajunas-Andrade] fight. We don't know what's next, but that seems like what would be what's next.
"We started game planning for that fight in the hospital an hour after the fight.”
Namajunas said she would ‘love’ to take on Weili and win the UFC strawweight championship.
She said: “She's awesome. Really technical, really strong. That's something that interests me a lot. Ever since I saw her fight Tecia [Torres], I've been scouting her out a little bit, and I think it's just going to be a beautiful display of martial arts. She's a master, I'm a master. It's going to be really cool.”
