NWSL player tests positive for coronavirus ahead of Challenge Cup in Utah
The National Women’s Soccer League has announced that a player at one of its clubs has tested positive for coronavirus.
The news comes just nine days before the league’s 2020 Challenge Cup tournament in Utah.
It is the league’s first reported case but the player has not been identified.
The NWSL said in a statement: “The health and safety of the players and staff is of utmost importance and the NWSL is doing everything to ensure the affected player is receiving proper care.”
The team affected is contact tracing and will increase testing for those who the player has come into contact with.
There have been no changes to the Challenge Cup schedule which is set to begin on June 27.
