Mother of bus driver who died from coronavirus hits out at London mayor for 'failing to protect him'
The mother of a London bus driver who died from coronavirus has hit out over the lack of protection he was given.
Emeka Nyack Ihenacho, 36, is one of 14 London public transport workers who have died from the disease.
And today, his mother Anne poured her heart out at his loss and turned her anger on London mayor Sadiq Khan for failing to safeguard staff.
Mr Khans told Good Morning Britain that transport workers don't have Personal Protective Equipment as he was following advice from the Government and the World Health Organisation.
He said: "What they've told us is that Personal Protective Equipment should only be used in care settings."
Mrs Nyack said she was 'fuming' after watching him speak.
"My stomach turned, I had to get up and walk out. It made me very, very angry. He's said they're doing this and that and deep cleaning but they're not.
"I don’t want a letter or a telephone call, I want [Sadiq Khan] to see the real faces of the tragedy, which is me and all the other bus drivers that have lost their lives.
"He needs to get out there and have a look at the buses and see what condition the drivers are operating in. They are at risk, my son was at risk, sadly he died."
She paid tribute to her son, who she said was a 'lovely man with a heart of gold'.
"He would help anybody. He was full of laughter and always a joker, he had a nickname for all of us."
