Megan Rapinoe for President? Don't tell Donald Trump, but she's not ruling out standing
FIFA footballer of the year and star of US soccer, Megan Rapinoe, has teased that she may one day run for office.
Appearing at the Watermark Conference for Women in Silicon Valley, the 34-year-old golden boot winner set tongues wagging with a cryptic, and somewhat politician-esque response when asked if she would ever consider standing for President.
She at first quashed the notion, saying: "At this time, I don’t have any plans of running for office - that seems out of the question,"
This was followed by a small pause and the ultimate teaser 'never say never,' accompanied by a wry smile.
For now Rapinoe's attentions are fully focused on the US bid to defend their Olympic title in Tokyo in this summer.
The team are favourites for the title and won the qualifiers in emphatic style with a 3-0 win over Canada in the final.
The present incumbent of the White House Donald Trump, a regular adversary of Rapinoe, has not yet commented.
