Liverpool shot stopper Alisson Becker has called for next year's Ballon d'Or ceremony to also celebrate the world's best female goalkeepers.

The 27-year-old Brazilian made his feelings clear after winning the coveted Lev Yashin trophy in Paris on Monday night.

He said: "We are speaking about making everything [on an] equal level, both women's and men's. I think we can work towards that."

His views echoed those of Lyon star Ada Hegerberg, who scooped the inaugural women's Ballon d'Or in 2018.

In an interview with Sportsmail she claimed there was work that needed to be done to ensure a level-playing field at the awards.

"I don't know why it's not the case for the women too," she said.

"I often reflect on how things are being done in federations or at clubs or how young girls get the opportunity to train but this is on top of the pyramid and should already be in place."

The 2019 women's award went to US World Cup captain and golden boot winner Megan Rapinoe, but there is still no acknowledgement of the best female goalkeeper or best young female player.
