Katie Taylor’s rematch with Delfine Persoon confirmed for August 22 in Essex
Undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor will rematch Belgian Delfine Persoon behind closed doors in Essex on August 22.
The pair fought to a controversial majority decision victory for the Irish champion in June last year in New York.
Many felt Persoon did enough to get the decision, but it was Taylor who had her hand raised after the fight.
And Olympic gold medallist Taylor is looking forward to putting to bed any talk of injustice from the first bout 13 months ago.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Taylor said: "With Amanda Serrano not taking the fight, I wanted the biggest fight possible in August, and I think a second Persoon fight is one that everyone wants to see.
"I've been looking forward to a rematch ever since the first fight and I'm delighted it's been made.
"It was definitely very close first time around, but I felt I deserved the win and I intend to leave no doubts in the rematch."
Meanwhile, Persoon is excited to get the opportunity at what she felt was the wrong decision last year.
"I am ready to get the victory following the injustice last June in New York," she said.
"Not by words, but in the ring - I am ready!"
Taylor, who has won all 15 of her fights as a professional, was originally slated to take on seven-weight world champion Amanda Serrano.
But negotiations with the Puerto Rican broke down after the initial date was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Taylor-Persoon will be the main undercard fight on Eddie Hearn’s pay-per-view card headlined by Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin.
The show will be the final of four organised by Matchroom Boxing at their headquarters in Brentwood.
