American boxer Jessica McCaskill is confident she can upset the odds on Saturday night by becoming the undisputed welterweight champion when she takes on legend Cecilia Braekhus.

The unified super-lightweight title holder is looking to end Braekhus’ perfect professional record of 36 wins from 36 fights when she takes to the ring in Oklahoma.

If the Norwegian successfully defends her belts she will break Joe Louis’ long-standing record of 25 consecutive title defences, but McCaskill is determined to ensure that does not happen.

"We’ll be in the Hall of Fame after winning this, that’s the big prize in the fight," she told DAZN. "After that, we move on to more history, to bigger and more fights with the top-tier names.

"The ultimate opportunity and reward in the fight is beating Cecilia, getting the belts and being in the history books.

"Then we’ll move on and things will be bigger and broader and we’re just continuing to look for the levels and the steps in female boxing.

"This is a massive step from even the last fight, we just want to continue to conquer every challenge that comes our way. Winning on August 15 is everything, it opens up more mega fights." 

McCaskill comes into the bout with a record of eight wins and two defeats from ten contests.

One of her defeats came against Irish superstar Katie Taylor back in 2017 when she lost by unanimous decision at York Hall.

Meanwhile, promoter Eddie Hearn has said if Braekhus is to win on Saturday then she will face the winner of Taylor v Persoon II, which takes place in Essex the following weekend.
