Ireland international Lauren Delany no longer able to sign for Bristol Bears due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’
Ireland international Lauren Delany will no longer be able to join Premier 15s side Bristol Bears due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
The club announced earlier this month that the 11-capped Ireland full-back had signed for them ahead of next season but now the deal is off.
She said: "I’m extremely disappointed that I will no longer be joining Bristol Bears Women. A lot has changed for me in my personal life in a very short period of time, which means that I’m no longer able to relocate to the South West from Manchester and link up with what would have been my new teammates.
“It’s a club going in the right direction with a talented group of players and fantastic coaches, and I’m gutted I won’t be able to represent the club. I would like to thank Kim and the Bristol Bears for their understanding on the matter and I wish the club all the best for the upcoming season.”
She was joining from northern club and now Championship side Firwood Waterloo. It is unconfirmed what club she will now play for.
Bears head coach Kim Oliver added: “We’re disappointed Lauren will not be joining us ahead of the new season, but we wholeheartedly understand and support her in doing what is right for her at this time.
“Lauren is a talented player and it’s a shame we’re not going to get to see her in Bears colours this season and we wish her the best of luck for the future.”
