Great Britain now face Mexico in April in Billie Jean Cup play-off following postponement
Great Britain’s play-off tie against Mexico in the Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Fed Cup, has been postponed from February to April next year.
It was scheduled to take place on February 5-6 but will now go ahead on April 16-17 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The new dates will avoid a clash with the Australian Open which has now been pushed back three weeks and will take place on February 8, according to the ATP.
The WTA are yet to release a calendar for the 2021 season.
The play-off tie will be played during the same week as the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Budapest.
Billie Jean King Cup committee chair Katrina Adams said: "We are looking forward to what will be a fantastic week of international team tennis, showcasing the best of the Billie Jean King Cup competition.
“We would like to thank all of the national associations, hosts, captains and players involved for their understanding and flexibility as we continue to respond to the challenges posed by the pandemic.”
The play-offs feature 16 national teams who will have a chance to reach the 2022 Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers.
In January captain Anne Keothavong announced the GB team which consisted of Heather Watson, Harriet Dart, Katie Swan, Emma Raducanu and Naiktha Bains.
Johanna Konta and Katie Boulter both missed out due to injuries, but there has been no update of the squad ahead of next year’s Mexico tie.
