Gemma Dryburgh shocks Georgia Hall to win third event of Rose Ladies Series
World No 224 Gemma Dryburgh stunned World No 39 Georgia Hall to win the third event of the Rose Ladies Series.
Dryburgh hit four birdies at ten, 13, 14 and 16 before posting a back-nine 32 and three-under 69 at The Buckinghamshire.
While Hall bogeyed the last with two clear and so left the door open for Dryburgh to take the win.
She said: "It is definitely the best win of my pro career. Just look at the field - it was almost like a LPGA Tour event, with Georgia, Charley [Hull] and Bronte [Law] and, of course, Dame Laura [Davies].
“I didn't have the best front nine, but I slam-dunked my bunker shot on the 10th for a birdie and that got me going.”
The rules dictate that the player’s caddie must be from their household and so Dryburgh’s dad Jim took on the role.
"The coronavirus rules say your caddie must be from the same household, and it was so great to have Dad here. We have a good record together, as he was with me at the Q-Schools when I got my Tour cards, so my normal caddie should look out!"
So far in the series Hull has won at Brokenhurst Manor and Meghan MacLaren took a victory at Moor Park.
The tournament is sponsored by pro golfer Justin Rose and his wife Kate to fill the gap in the golf calendar. The Ladies European Tour will not restart until at least August.
The next event is at Royal St George on July 9 and the Grand Final begins on August 5.
Dryburgh, who is now in second position behind Hull, will miss the final in order to travel back to the US and quarantine so she can partake in the LGPA.
