GB 200m world champion Dina Asher-Smith is backing a new athletes' union formed after the Diamond League cut four core events from its 2020 programme. 

The Athletics Association was launched last night by the USA's two-time Olympic and four-time triple jump champion Christian Taylor to "fight for athletes' rights".

Asher-Smith tweeted in response to Taylor's launch: "You know you always have my support! Let's do this."

The move comes after yesterday's announcement by the IAAF which saw significant changes to the 2020 Diamond League schedule. 

The 200m and the 3,000m steeplechase will now take place in only 10 of the 15 meetings, whilst the discus and triple jump events will be staged at just two meetings.

None of the four disciplines will be featured in the Diamond League final in Zurich. 

Diamond League chairman and IAAF president Sebastian Coe said the changes will "create a faster-paced, more exciting global league".

Taylor posted Twitter: "We will fight for athletes' rights and ultimately demand a seat at the table and a say in how our sport is run and how the sport can grow and evolve without ripping out its very core.

"Our sport is about unity and diversity and separating the events can only damage this sport we all love."
