Former world super middleweight champion Alejandra Jimenez suspended after testing positive for banned substance
Former world super middleweight champion Alejandra Jimenez has been handed a nine-month suspension by the World Boxing Council following a positive test for a banned substance.
The 32-year-old Mexican became a unified world champion at 168 pounds after defeating Franchon Crews Dezurn in San Antonio in January.
But just two weeks after her victory Jimenez returned an adverse finding from a VADA test and was provisionally suspended by the WBC, a decision which has now been upheld.
In addition to the suspension, Jimenez may be required to undertake random tests during a further year under ’probation status’ and would face indefinite suspension in the case of a further adverse result, reports World Boxing News.
Jimenez lost over 70 pounds in 18 months as she dropped down from heavyweight to challenge for the super middleweight title.
Crews Dezurn has been reinstated as WBC champion, while the result of the fight between the two has been changed from a victory for Jimenez to a no contest.
