Firwood Waterloo’s Bethany Stott retires from rugby union
Firwood Waterloo stalwart Bethany Stott has retired from rugby union after 13 years at the club.
However, it has not been confirmed if she will also hang up her boots in rugby league as she also plays for St Helens.
She announced the news on Twitter, saying: "All good things must come to an end. 13 years ago I turned up at Waterloo u18s not knowing a thing about rugby union.
"A few cuts, scrapes and broken bones later; I've played with and against the best, met some great people and have memories that'll last a lifetime.
“Thanks to everyone that's been part of the journey, from players to coaches and everyone in between. #152 over and out”
Waterloo paid tribute to Stott and also revealed her new job at the club.
They said: "Stotty had an amazing career @WaterlooRugby . She is a deadly kicker, & to win the Golden Boot in the 1st season of the @Premier15s (when we were hardly prolific points scorers) was basically miraculous!
"She is a calm head in the huddle & to say we'll miss her is an understatement.
"We're hoping she can continue her role as guest coach as she has a rare rugby brain & when @bstott24 speaks, everyone listens.
"Stotty now takes her rightful place in the roll of Waterloo #Legends, topping the list of ‘people we want to be when we grow up’! Thank you Stotty xx"
