Everything Apple announced at its virtual event
Apple’s first live event of the autumn did not see the reveal of the iPhone 12, however, the tech giant still made a number of big announcements.
From fitness subscriptions to new tablets, here is a look at all the key product unveilings.
– Apple Watch Series 6
Apple’s new flagship smartwatch has not changed a huge amount from last year, but does now include a new health sensor which uses red and infra-red light to the measure blood oxygen level of the wearer.
There are also a number of new Watch bands and finishes – including a blue and a Product RED casing for the first time.
The new Series 6 will be available from September 18, starting at £379.
– Apple Watch SE
The new “affordable” Apple Watch, the SE has some of the same design features as the Series 6, but instead starts at £269.
Apple describes it as the wearable which makes the Apple Watch accessible to everyone.
– Fitness+
The new subscription service from the iPhone maker, Fitness+ offers a range of workout sessions and classes led by pro instructors, which can be viewed on an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV.
Linked to the Apple Watch and its workout app, the service shares workout data gathered from the wearable to the screen so users can track their exercise.
It also links with Apple Music for playlists to exercise to and will include 10 different types of workout at launch, including walking and running on a treadmill, HIIT sessions, yoga and rowing machine workouts.
It is set to go live before the end of the year and will cost either £9.99 a month or £79.99 for a year.
– Apple One
Sticking to the services business, Apple also unveiled its first bundle offer – a collection of subscriptions to its major services for one price – known as Apple One.
There are three tiers to Apple One. The Individual package includes Apple Music, TV+, Apple Arcade and 50GB of iCloud storage for £14.95 a month.
The family package consists of Music, TV+, Arcade and 200GB of iCloud space and can be shared between up to six family members, costing £19.95 each month.
The top tier, known as Premier, includes Apple Music, TV+, Arcade, News+ Fitness+ and two terabytes of iCloud storage for £29.95 a month.
– iPad eighth-generation
Apple’s entry-level iPad, the eighth-generation tablet has been given a big performance boost to include the firm’s A12 Bionic chip, which Apple says is up to three times faster than the top-selling Android tablet and up to six times faster than Google’s best-selling Chromebook laptop.
It will start at £329 and goes on sale on September 18.
– iPad Air
The iPad Air has also been given a major redesign – its first in some time – to now include the “all-screen” front panel already in place on the flagship iPad Pro range.
The traditional Home button is gone and a larger 10.9-inch display now pushes out towards the edge of the device.
It also features improved cameras and Apple’s latest A14 Bionic chip to give it major performance boost, the company says.
Set to go on sale next month, the new Air will start at £579.
