Crystal Palace release three players after ‘difficult decision’
Championship side Crystal Palace have released three players after what their manager has called a ‘difficult decision’.
Palace boss Dean Davenport hinted the departure of Hannah Mackenzie, Lucy Gillett and Magda Mosengo’s came as a result of the financial impact on the club of the coronavirus pandemic.
He said: “It’s a difficult time in women’s football with the uncertainty regarding the pandemic.
“The club and players have been – and will continue to be – making tough decisions as anticipation builds around the restarting of the game and the 2020/21 campaign.
“Letting the three go that we have was a difficult decision to arrive at. But throughout their time at the club they’ve all been professional and fitted the club’s hardworking ethos.
“I would like to wish all of them the very best in the next stage of their careers.”
Mosengo signed for Palace last summer. She played 15 games for the Eagles and scored four goals.
And Gillett also joined last summer and was the club’s number one keeper this season.
While, Mackenzie signed for Palace in 2018.
The Championship was cancelled last month and the final placings were announced two weeks ago.
Palace finished ninth having won two of the 14 games they played.
