Chelsea’s Beth England scoops Women’s Super League Player of the Season as Emma Hayes claims manager award
Chelsea forward Beth England has been named the Women’s Super League Player of the Season for the 2019-20 campaign.
The 26 year-old scored 14 league goals as she helped her side to a second title in three years.
She also provided four assists for her teammates in what has been a stellar 12 months for the Barnsley-born attacker.
Speaking about receiving the accolade, she said: "I would like to give a special thanks to all the fans for voting for me online. It’s greatly appreciated and means a lot to me.
"I would also like to dedicate this award to my team-mates, without them I would not have been able to have the season I have had.
"This is for all the team, all the staff and all the fans that went through with us this year."
Meanwhile, England’s manager Emma Hayes collected the Manager of the Season award for guiding her side to another WSL triumph.
Hayes, who now has three WSL league titles to her name, has continued to build a dynasty at Chelsea since she joined in 2012.
"I just want to say a big thank you to all of my staff for the contributions this season," she said.
"This trophy is about the whole group and a big thank you to the players for stepping up another level and thanks once again to our fans for being the best in the world."
The Golden Boot award went to Arsenal striker Vivianne Miedema.
The Dutch star finished level with England on 14 goals but crucially had four more assists to her name.
Six of Miedema’s WSL goals came in the same game during a remarkable 11-1 victory over Bristol City in which she assisted four as well as scoring a double hat-trick.
And the final award - the Golden Glove - went to Manchester City keeper Ellie Roebuck.
The English shot-stopper conceded just nine goals in 16 WSL games to give City the best defensive record in the division.
Man City finished one point above Chelsea but as the season was cut short because of the coronavirus pandemic, the title was awarded based on a points-per-game basis so Roebuck and co missed out.
