Caroline Wozniacki to retire from tennis after the Australian Open
Former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki has announced that she will retire from tennis after the Australian Open in January 2020.
In an announcement on Instagram today, the 29-year-old Dane said it has "nothing to do with my health and this isn't a goodbye," despite having been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in 2018.
The 2018 Australian Open champion, who has not competed since the China Open in October, says she plans to focus on other aspects of her life away from the tennis court.
She enrolled in Harvard Business School in September and hopes to start a family with husband David Lee, who plays for the New York Knicks.
Throughout her career she won 30 WTA singles titles including one grand slam (2018 Australian Open) and the 2017 WTA finals. She also reached world number one in 2010 and has competed at three Olympic games.
