Atlanta Dream guard Tiffany Hayes opts to sit out 2020 WNBA season
Atlanta Dream guard Tiffany Hayes is the latest WNBA player to opt out of the 2020 season.
The 30 year-old becomes the fifth player to skip the season along with team-mate Renee Montgomery, Connecticut Sun’s Jonquel Jones and Washington Mystics players Natasha Cloud and LaToya Sanders.
Hayes, who was a 2018 All-WNBA first-team selection, said in a statement: "This was not an easy decision but I believe it is in my best interest with everything going on right now.
"Although I love playing this game, I believe there are much more important things to be thinking about in this moment. I want to thank my teammates, coaches and the Dream organization for supporting my decision.
“I wish them best of luck in Florida and look forward to getting back on the court in 2021 for Atlanta.”
Montgomery and Cloud announced they were taking a break from the sport to focus on social justice reform.
While Sanders and Jones will miss the season due to health reasons.
The 2020 WNBA season is set to resume on July 22.
