Amy Schumer changes son Gene Attell's name after realising it sounds like 'genital'
American actress and comedian Amy Schumer has changed her son's name after realising it sounded rude when people first tried to pronounce it.
Speaking on her podcast, Amy Schumer Presents: 3 Girls 1 Keith, the 38-year-old revealed that she and husband Chris Fischer had named their son Gene Attel Fischer, in tribute to notable comedian, David Attell.
However, the couple have since realised their mistake and had to make a change.
“So do you guys know that Gene, our baby’s name is officially changed?" said Schumer.
"It’s now Gene David Fischer. It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son ‘genital,” she admitted.
The new name is still meaningful to the couple as 'David' is the name of the 'I Feel Pretty' star's father.
It was comedian Claudia O'Doherty who first highlighted the accidental rude connotations of the name.
Appearing as a guest on the podcast, she revealed it was her mother who had noticed it, saying: "My mom was like, ‘Amy’s called her son ‘genital'. And I was like, ‘What are you talking about'?”
Always the first to poke fun at herself, Schumer took to Instagram to joke about the mistake.
Alongside a photo of herself and Chris, she wrote: "Oh, like you never named your kid Genital fissure!!!!!"
