American rising stars Sofia Kenin and Coco Gauff confirmed for inaugural Berlin grass event
Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin and teen sensation Coco Guaff have both confirmed that they will compete at the inaugural bett1 Open grass event in Berlin in the build up to Wimbledon.
Kenin, 21, and Gauff, 15, will join headliners Angelique Kerber and Julia Goerges in the Premier grass-court event to be held at the Rot-Weiss Tennis Club in the west of Berlin between June 13-21.
In January, Kenin showed her pedigree, winning her first Grand Slam title when she lifted the trophy at the Australian Open, beating world No 1 Ashleigh Barty along the way before conquering Garbiñe Muguruza in the final.
She beat fellow Amercan Coco Gauff in the fourth round after the youngster famously defeated last year's champion Naomi Osaka in the third round.
Gauff first burst onto the scene at Wimbledon in 2019 when she beat her idol Venus Williams in the first round before continuing her rapid rise up the rankings. She now sits just outside the top 50.
Looking forward to the event, she said: "I have heard a lot of cool things about the city and I'm very excited about what will await me there.
"Being played just before Wimbledon, this tournament is very important to me."
