Susanna Reid says friend Kate Garraway ‘hoping for a miracle’ as husband continues fight for life in hospital
TV presenter Kate Garraway is ‘hoping for a miracle’ as her husband Derek continues to fight for his life in hospital, says Good Morning Britain colleague Susanna Reid.
The 52-year-old has been in a coma since the end of March after contracting coronavirus.
While Kate recently revealed he is now testing negative for COVID-19, she also stressed the ’extraordinary damage’ the disease has done to his body.
And Reid, who has worked with Kate for many years, has praised her friend for how she has dealt with the whole ordeal.
Speaking in her Daily Mail column, she said: "Watching my friend Kate Garraway describing her husband Derek Draper’s condition on Good Morning Britain was heartbreaking.
"She has such strength even to be able to put into words what she and their children are going through.
"Kate is hoping for a miracle in his recovery and for him to break through... Derek is a strong, clever, insightful man devoted to his gorgeous wife and children."
Kate and Derek have two children together and they have been filmed stepping out with their mum for the weekly Clap for Carers.
Garraway said last week: "He's still with us. He has fought the most extraordinary battle. But you know, the fact that he is still here and is holding on. I'm just so grateful he's still here. And I've got the option of praying and hoping."
