Kanye West is officially running for president
US rapper Kanye West will be on the Oklahoma presidential ballot in November after filing the paperwork and paying $35,000.
The news comes just a day after it was reported West wouldn’t run. New York Magazine’s Intelligencer quoted his adviser Steve Kramer saying he ‘was out’ of the race.
However, a representative for the musician last night said he had filed on Wednesday and he will run as an independent candidate.
TMZ reported that West had filed for Statement of Organisation with the Federal Election Commission. It said that a Kanye 2020 committee would serve as a principal campaign committee for West.
West has missed the deadline to be included on the ballot in several states.
In Oklahoma, where West will appear, candidates need 35,592 signatures or pay $35,000.
However in Colorado, candidates need 5,000 signatures or pay $1,000. The deadline to run in the state is August 5.
