Cris Cyborg joins Bellator in 'largest deal in women's MMA history'
Former UFC Featherweight Champion Cris Cyborg has signed a deal with rival promotion Bellator after finishing her UFC career in July.
She made the announcement, saying: "Hey Cyborg Nation fans, I'm very excited to announce that I'm going to be partnering with Scott Coker and Viacom - I'll be fighting Bellator."
The Brazilian-American boasts a career record 21-2 as a pro (7-1 in UFC) and ran a streak of 20 consecutive wins last year before this ended in a loss to Amanda Nunes.
Bellator president Scott Coker has previously worked with Cybord and was quick to sing her praises, saying: "I have worked with countless athletes over my 30-plus years of promoting combat sports, but there is no-one quite like Cyborg.
"Cyborg is the most dominant female fighter in the history of the sport and she will be a perfect fit here at Bellator," he added.
The featherweight spent 517 days as champion and is the only female fighter to successfully defend this title. She rounded off her sparkling UFC career beating Felicia Spencer in July.
The 34-year-old parted way with UFC after a clash with UFC honcho Dana White, who said he would release her from her contract.
Despite being new to Bellator, Cyborg is not being shy about her ambitions saying: "My goal is to be the only female fighter to hold four different major titles in the same division." She has already held belts at Strikeforce, Invicta and UFC and has her eyes firmly on her next prize.
It seems she will not have to wait long to get her shot at the title, with an immediate match-up against reigning champion Julia Budd already in the pipeline. Budd is currently 13-2 in her career having only lost to Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes.
